Animal Testing
Animal Testing
Animal experimentation
is the creation and use of animal models for scientific purposes, the purpose
of which is usually to extend and improve the lives of humans and other
animals, such as pets or livestock, animal research is mandatory in the
development of new drugs or therapies to be used on humans according to the
Nuremberg Code, after barbarities were committed on humans in World War II.
In cosmetic research,
painful experiments are conducted on hundreds of thousands of animals each
year, including rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice. These tests include skin or
eye irritation and skin sensitization.
More than 12 million
animals are used in EU research every year. This equates to 137 animals suffering
cruel and painful experiments every 10 minutes.
As we can see, the numbers
are alarming, thousands of animals die so that we can use our cosmetics and
toiletries, however, there are solutions to prevent this problem from
continuing.
- o Companies should look for other alternatives, such as cell cultures, in fact, organizations and scientists have been working for decades on new drug designs and experimental research methods that promote more humane alternative methods.
- o Today, technology surprises us by the wonderful things it does, so companies working in cosmetics should rely more on technology to create their products without harming animals.
- o This is more of an idea than a solution, the different organizations should create a law prohibiting animal experimentation.
- o And this solution is
something that you and I can do, and that is that we should not buy products
that do not have the animal cruelty-free seal on their packaging, small things
make big changes.
